Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about Georgia apostilles, document authentication, mobile notary services, identification, witnesses, and preparing documents for use in the U.S. and abroad.
When in doubt, wait to sign. Some notarial acts require the notary to witness your signing, while an acknowledgment involves confirming your signature in the notary’s presence. Because requirements vary by document and notarial act, it’s best to leave the signature area unsigned until your appointment unless you've been specifically instructed otherwise.
Georgia notaries must confirm the identity of the person signing, typically through a government-issued photo ID(Drivers license, Military ID, Passport) or personal knowledge of the signer. For a mobile appointment, have your current government-issued photo ID ready and make sure all required signers are present. If you're unsure whether your identification will work, contact us before your appointment.
Yes. Third Party Solutions provides mobile notary appointments at hospitals, hospice facilities, nursing homes, assisted living communities, rehabilitation facilities, jails, detention centers, storage facilities, car lots, and other approved locations throughout Metro Atlanta and Georgia. Facility rules, access requirements, signer availability, and identification requirements may affect scheduling, so special-location visits should be coordinated in advance.
An apostille authenticates certain U.S. documents for use internationally in countries that participate in the Hague Convention. You may need one for documents used abroad for marriage, dual citizenship, employment, education, residency, or business. The correct process depends on where the document was issued and the country where it will be used. Third Party Solutions can review your document and destination country and help coordinate the appropriate apostille or authentication process.
An apostille is generally used when your document is going to a country that participates in the Hague Convention. If the destination country is a non Hague Convention member, the document may require authentication an embassy/consulate legalization instead. The process depends on the document, where it was issued, and its destination. Third Party Solutions can help determine which process applies and coordinate the required steps.
For qualifying documents issued by the state of Georgia, apostilles are issued via the Georgia Superior Court Clerks’ Cooperative Authority (GSCCCA). Third Party Solutions does not issue the apostille itself—we help prepare qualifying documents, coordinate submission and courier service, and return the completed documents to you.
Many state-issued Georgia documents may qualify for an apostille, including birth and death certificates, marriage records, court documents, diplomas and transcripts, notarized affidavits, Powers of Attorney, and certain business documents. Requirements vary by document type. The document must be reviewed to determine the correct preparation and authentication process, not every photocopy or downloaded record will qualify.
A Single Status Affidavit may be required when getting married in another country to confirm that you are legally free to marry. For Georgia apostille processing, the affidavit must be properly prepared and notarized before it can be submitted for an apostille. Requirements can also vary by destination country, so confirm what the foreign authority requires before beginning the process.
Yes. Diplomas, transcripts, and other academic records may qualify for a Georgia apostille when properly prepared. Depending on the document, additional steps such as certification by the school and notarization may be required before submission. Requirements can vary, so academic documents should be reviewed before starting the apostille process.
It depends on the document. Some documents, such as certain affidavits, Powers of Attorney, and privately issued documents, may require notarization before they can be apostilled. Other documents, such as qualifying certified vital records, follow a different certification process and generally should not be notarized first. We can review your document to determine the appropriate next step.
Generally, no. Apostilles are issued based on where the document originated—not where you currently live. A document issued or notarized in another state typically must be apostilled by the appropriate authority in that state. Third Party Solutions can help identify the correct processing route so your document is submitted to the proper authority.
If the destination country is a non Hague country, a Georgia apostille is not the correct certification. Georgia documents generally require Great Seal certification through the Georgia Secretary of State first, then may require additional authentication and embassy/consular legalization depending on the destination. For more information, refer to the Official Federal Resource: U.S. Department of State — travel.state.gov
Yes. FBI background checks and other qualifying federal documents may receive an apostille or authentication certificate through the U.S. Department of State Office of Authentications, depending on the destination country. Because these are federal documents, they do not go through Georgia’s GSCCCA apostille process. For more information, refer to the Official Federal Resource: U.S. Department of State — travel.state.gov
Not necessarily. The state of Georgia(GSCCCA) states that a document does not need to be translated into English simply because it is written in another language. If the destination country specifically requires an apostille on a translation, however, the translator must complete an affidavit and sign it before a Georgia notary. The translator and notary cannot be the same person.
GSCCCA states that its normal processing time for mailed Georgia apostille requests is one to two business days once received. Your total turnaround time may be longer depending on document preparation, delivery method, return shipping, and whether additional authentication or legalization is required. Third Party Solutions offers courier coordination to help keep your documents moving through the process.
It depends on the document. Georgia vital records, court records, and certain government records generally require an official certified copy from the issuing agency. Other documents, such as affidavits, Powers of Attorney(POA), diplomas, or transcripts, may need to be properly notarized before submission. GSCCCA requires documents submitted for apostille to meet its specific document requirements.
Yes. Witness coordination is available with advance notice for qualifying signings. Witness requirements vary by document—for example, a Healthcare Advance Directive in Georgia will generally requires two competent witnesses. If your document was prepared by an attorney or another issuing party, confirm its witness requirements before your appointment so we can coordinate the signing properly.
Yes. Third Party Solutions provides notary-to-notary apostille and courier support for notaries who want to offer expanded document services without managing every step themselves. We can assist with document pickup, apostille or authentication submission, courier coordination, and return delivery—allowing you to remain the primary point of contact for your client.
Start by telling us what document you have, where it was issued, and the country where it will be used. Those details help determine whether your document needs an apostille, authentication, or additional legalization and which authority handles it. Third Party Solutions can then review the requirements and coordinate the appropriate next steps, including document preparation, submission, courier service, and return delivery.
